Zumratul Islamiyyah Senior Grammar School has emerged champions of the 2025 inter-school basketball competition after defeating Andus D’ Great School 28–19 in an exciting final match played on Thursday.
The basketball competition is part of the sporting activities used in commemorating the 2025 Igbogbo Day Celebration.
The event took place on the basketball court of Andus D’Great School, where members of sports sub – committee of the Igbogbo Day Planning Committee, students, teachers, and supporters gathered to witness the high-energy encounter.

Right from the start, the match was filled with excitement as both teams displayed determination, strong teamwork, and skill. The players fought for the game, passing the ball swiftly and making impressive attempts to take the lead. The two referees on duty ensured proper coordination, fairness, and smooth conduct of the game throughout the encounter.
The teams showcased accuracy, speed, and creativity, drawing loud cheers from the crowd. Music and chants from supporters added colour and rhythm to the atmosphere, energising the players as they battled for victory.
In the end, Zumratul Islamiyyah Senior Grammar School won the final game with a commanding 28–19 win, securing the championship title and earning admiration for their impressive performance.

Speaking after the match, Chibundu Godwin Nwafor, one of the standout players for Zumratul Islamiyyah, expressed gratitude to God and the organisers for the opportunity to showcase his talent. He reflected on the team’s journey, saying:
“Last year, we couldn’t win the championship. We came second, and I wasn’t happy because we really wanted the first position. That disappointment gave me courage to work harder with the team. This year, we told ourselves we must carry the cup — and with teamwork and skill, we did it.”
His excitement highlighted the joy and pride shared by the entire winning team as they celebrated their long-awaited victory.

In another interview, a teacher from Andus D’Great School expressed pride in the effort of her players. She explained that most of the students who won last year’s tournament had graduated, leaving a new and inexperienced team to compete this year.
“Even though they are new, they showcased great potential. We promise to train harder and come back stronger next year,” she said.
She also commended the organisers for a well-coordinated and transparent competition, praising the fairness of the officiating and the good conduct of the students.

The thrilling event ended with jubilation, music, and celebration as Zumratul Islamiyyah Senior Grammar School lifted the trophy, marking their 28–19 victory over Andus D’Great School and sealing their place as the 2025 basketball champions.
